About North Jersey Midwifery Care, LLC

Donna Tabas is an experienced Certified Nurse Midwife trained at Columbia University, with over 30 years of working with birthing families, offering women a unique midwifery opportunity for their prenatal and birthing care. My office is in Union City, NJ, and I deliver babies out of Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck NJ. Should complications develop, I work in association with a midwifery-supportive OB/GYN, Dr. Stephano Stella, with whom I will consult, collaborate or refer, as needed. I have access to the excellent Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists at Holy Name Hospital if your pregnancy involves complications. There is a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Holy Name Hospital should issues arise with the baby after birth. I was one of the midwives featured in the renown worldwide documentary 'Orgasmic Birth,' and one of my VBAC births was featured on the TLC channel show, 'A Baby Story.'The distinguishing hallmarks of my care involve:'Your prenatal appointments are private, comfortable, unrushed with no time limits, and can occur either at your home or my office, or a combination of both, which ever makes you more comfortable. 'I am available to schedule your prenatal appointments in the evenings and weekends to accommodate those women who work, who have other children, or/and want their partners to be present for the appointments.' Your partner, children, family members, doulas, etc. are always welcome to attend.'Your prenatal care is based on both holistic, and the most evidence-based, up-to-date standards of care. 'During your prenatal appointments, exquisite attention to given to your personalized needs, during which much education, counseling, and sharing occurs. It is not the usual, 10 minute, 'weigh, dipstick, measure, and heartbeat' visit. We do all of that, and then we start our 'visit!'You are given a comprehensive, 68 page, up-to-date, 'living document'continually updated' self-written Pregnancy Orientation Guidebook which covers all areas of information a pregnant woman would want to know, including What to expect, Explanations of all laboratory tests, Options for Genetic Screening, Normal pregnancy discomforts and how to cope with them, Nutrition in pregnancy, Sex in pregnancy, Exercise in pregnancy, Things to avoid in pregnancy, Medications in pregnancy, Working during pregnancy, Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Collection options, What to do if you think you are in labor, Preparation for your birth and hospital experience, choosing your pediatrician, hospital Newborn procedures, Postpartum instructions, and an extensive Resource section with book, CDs, doulas, childbirth educators, lactation support, yoga and other adjunct health care practitioners, etc. I encourage you to bring this booklet to each prenatal appointment so we may refer together to timely issues for that visit.'You are fully informed about of all your options/risks/benefits for prenatal testing, so you can decide which testing you would like to have.'You are welcome to contact me in between office visits with questions, concerns, etc. There is no such thing as a 'stupid' question!!!!! I want you to feel empowered and knowledgeable about your pregnancy and birth.'I am an 'out-of-network' provider, meaning that I am not contracted with any insurance companies. My staff will be happy to verify your insurance coverage and estimate your out of pocket expenses. If you have 'out-of-network' benefits, then a significant amount of my fee will be covered by your insurance. As the Affordable Care Act is being implemented, many families are finding that their deductibles are higher that your financial responsibility for my services. A portion of my fee is due prior to the birth to ensure that I am paid for the outstanding and personalized care you will receive. The codes billed for after the birth that are recognized by insurance companies do not acknowledge the vastly increased amount of care and time you receive from me. After the birth we will file a claim for your bill on your behalf with your insurance company if you have out of network coverage, and we will work with your insurance company to maximize their payment.'If you do not have insurance or do not have any out-of-network benefits, self-pay clients are welcome, at a substantial discount. People make decisions all the time about how to spend their money, and if the kind of midwifery care and birth experience I offer is a priority to you, then the decision making becomes clearer and more simplified.'I limit my practice to two patients due per month to be able to provide this exceptionally high level of personalized, flexible, concierge-type service, and guarantee that I will be the one to deliver your baby, barring extraordinary circumstances.'
